" You're doing WHAT to the Mapes?"

This 210-page, soft-bound book was introduced in October of 2005, and includes 63 "segments" - individual or combined columns that appeared in the Saturday real estate section of the Reno Gazette Journal between 2001 and 2004. Some of the segments were supplemented with additional information that came in after publication, or that which would not fit into column length.  Curiously, it has little or nothing in it about the Mapes Hotel.  If you're interested in the Mapes look for Patty Cafferata's Mapes Book that came out the same time.

    The columns in this book have little rhyme or reason, save for being about Reno and Sparks - nostalgia, some humor, old buildings, street name origins, long-gone stores, legends (or legends in their own minds) and occasional thoughts from the columnist.  I had a lot of fun writing them, and most readers enjoyed reading them.

    "You're doing WHAT ..." has sold well and is in its second printing.  It's not a bad little Christmas gift at $16.95 , and while it's sold in bookstores, the writer is glad to sell them also, and enjoys personalizing them with a signature.  Discounts occasionally occur for multiple purchases.

    A companion book is in the works for introduction on the first (first chance I get).  It's titled "You're doing WHAT to the Liberty Belle?" and will include some columns from 2005 through 2008, and a few that were written prior to 2001.  In that year I went to a Windows-based computer from my old Mac, which was a hell of a lot easier to use but incompatible with anything I did.  The older columns will have to be key-stroked in to Windows.
